As you may know, I love Nair's brazilian spa clay wax, so when my cousin Teems told me about the Nair Brazilian Shower Power cream I had to try it. As a rule I don't mess with the hair removal creams because they burn me, don't work well, and stink no matter how much scrubbing I do. But she said it wasn't a bad experience and worked very well for her with little smell. She also had negative experiences with various hair removal creams and I trusted her opinion. I went to Duane Reade to get it because they still have that banging 30% off on the whole Nair Brazilian spa clay line (most locations are running it until the 29th!) I was always a little curious about the shower creams, but skeptical all the same. It is a little more on the expensive side, but in my opinion, after seeing it in action, it's worth it. You don't need to use a lot of product either, so I know this bottle will last a while.
Now I know I said I love the wax and wouldn't give it up for anything, but the caveat to this is that the wax works wonderfully, but only when my hair is long enough. It doesn't catch the hairs as well when they're shorter. And in this heat that we've been having, I can't do that. I don't have the time to dance around with pants and planning my outfits while I'm waiting for my hair to grow long enough to wax. Off to the shower cream we go!
Pros:
- works fast
- easy to use
- no overpowering smell
- smell does not linger
- stays on while in the shower
- pump has a cap to close it
Cons:
- still need a good scrub to wash it all off
- the sponge is not good for application
While the directions were pretty straight forward, I didn't follow them to a T, but the product worked fairly well anyway. I had varying lengths of hair on my arms and legs (gross I know!) and figured this was the best way to test if the cream was going to get all the hairs, even the short stubbly ones. The sponge was pretty useless during application and I thought it unnecessary. It felt like it was swallowing up product and it was messy. After I few swipes I just put it to the side and used my hands. I put a thin layer on my legs and arms with about 4-5 pumps of the product and the bottle barely felt like I touched it. I washed my hands and jumped right in the shower. While you aren't supposed to have the stream of water directly on the cream, it didn't wash completely off when I turned on the water and forgot to angle the shower head away. Oops. I didn't wait long to start wiping it off with the sponge, maybe 2 mins tops (not counting the application time) The sponge definitely is much better for wiping the cream off. The hair came out easily enough, no double wiping necessary. I did need to scrub a little to get the feeling of the hair cream off. It does still feel a little slimy and slick on the skin, even with washing off with soap and water. My legs and arms were hairless. There were a few ingrown hairs that stayed behind, but that was expected. I wasn't entirely smooth when I ran my hand over my legs. There was some stubble in a few areas, but I chalk it up to me doing a thin layer and not waiting long enough. For sure in the future I will make sure to leave it on a minute longer.
Now this product is a hair removal cream, so it doesn't smell like flowers and candy. But it doesn't have the over powering chemical smell that a lot of creams have straight out the bottle. Over time as it sat on my skin it did develop a mild chemical smell, but nothing compared to the original Nair. My bathroom did not smell like a chemical lab, and my shower was free of the Nair residue with no lingering scent. My skin didn't hold on to the smell either, so Nair must be doing something right with the Brazilian spa clay line.
| not the best pic, but the cap snapped shut |
The pump on the cap is a good addition for storage, but it won't help if you accidentally push down on the pump. Just make sure to clean it off before snapping it shut. Don't want any product drying up and sealing it closed.
You can find the Nair Brazilian spa clay line at local pharmacies (Rite Aid, Duane Reade, Walgreens, CVS, etc), Target/Walmart, most supermarkets, or wherever you buy your beauty supplies from.
Anyone else dare to Nair?
